ST. JOHN, US VIRGIN ISLANDS: In June & July of 2023, THP surveyed the entire island of St. John for hawksbills with the help of UVISTRC. This was an important baseline study for the island and their critically endangered Caribbean hawksbill turtles. Seventeen hawksbill turtles were documented and sampled with another nine turtles sighted and recorded. The documentation of these turtles allowed for biometric data to be collected (size and weight) and most importantly their genetic data, which should give us the location of their natal origin.

ST. JOHN, US VIRGIN ISLANDS: In June & July of 2024, THP was back surveying the entire island of St. John for hawksbills with the help of UVISTRC. This was an important
second year
for the island and their critically endangered Caribbean hawksbill turtles. A further 10 hawksbill turtles were documented (5 new and 5 recaps) and sampled. The continued documentation of these turtles allowed for biometric data to be collected (size and weight) and most importantly their genetic data, which should give THP the location of their natal origin.
